Throw a zombie-themed Halloween party that will show off your friends' creativity

Halloween is just around the corner, and if you're throwing a costume bash for the holiday, there's no reason why you can't throw a specific theme into the mix. A Halloween party with a zombie backdrop could be an excellent way to narrow down your guests' costume choices while opening up a whole range of ideas. Decorating for this bash is close to how you would dress up your home for a similar occasion, but you'll want your home to feel like a zombie movie as soon as your guests come inside.
1. An eerie atmosphere. Zombie movies are typically divided into the dead rising from the grave or some kind of crazy virus that causes the end of civilization. Since you don't want your home to look like a post-apocalyptic nightmare, give homage to the classic movies instead. Create a small graveyard in your front yard and be sure to hide speakers on the side that will play ominous music when your guests arrive. One idea is to create a fake coffin in the front yard and enlist the help of one of your friends to scare people as they come to the door!
2. Dress up your communal areas. Once the outside is completed, turn your attention to where your guests will be spending their time. On your serving table, be sure to use fake blood on the side of your party centerpieces, party tableware and other Halloween party supplies. Put a zombie movie on the TV and keep it muted, and look into renting a fog machine to create a spooky atmosphere. You can also try adding fake limbs underneath your couch or hanging out of closets to add a comically creative accent to your theme.
3. Hold a costume contest. It will be interesting to see how your friends work with the zombie theme, so hand out an award to the top three zombies at your party. Put a ballot box near your front door and have your friends vote for their top choices and tally up the winners at the end of the night. Hand out personalized chocolate bars or other party favors to the winners.
