The big one
Date Created: 04/25/2012
Throughout your child's life he or she will have numerous birthdays worthy of celebration. For example, 10 is double digits, 13 marks the beginning of adolescence and 18 means he or she is legally an adult. The earliest birthday milestone birthday in your child's life though is the first one. So make one-years-old an extra-special occasion and share it with your closest friends and proud relatives - this isn't an occasion grampa and gramma and your child's favorite aunt and uncle will want to miss.
Have your child's first birthday be a theme party in his or her honor. Send out heart warming party invitations with the date and place in colorful font accompanied by the cutest photograph you have of your little one. You may want to consider hiring a professional photographer to take portraits for these.
Decorate your house with streamers and balloons and dress your child with clothes that match the color of the decorations. If you are worried about not having enough time to bake a cake (because you are too busy taking care of that 12-month-old child!), then there is no harm in having a professional bakery make one for you. This will allow you to customize the cake with the perfect saying or candid a picture of your child. You can also choose the color of the cake's frosting flowers or ribbons, so that it coordinates with the rest of the decorations and party tableware.
Kim Vallee, a domestic planning and design guru, suggests on her website that you keep the food bit-sized for the rest of the babies. This will allow you to organize your simple sandwiches and vegetable dishes in unique patterns, giving your hors d'oeuvre table an artistic aesthetic. For beverages, make sure you include juice, and if you are health-conscious, use fruit juices that contain all natural ingredients, rather than high amounts of sugar and high fructose corn syrup.
If you have a spring baby, consider using flowers to decorate your house. This will be an opportune moment to show off those gardening skills you have garnered. To finish off the decorations, a personalized banner will do the trick. Although your baby won't be able to read it, the sign will demonstrate the happiness and joy you feel for the one year your little one has been in your life.
