Insider's guide to throwing a memorable baby shower
Date Created: 05/02/2012
If your close friend or daughter is expecting a child, she is on the cusp of one of the most momentous experiences of her life. She is about to usher a new being into this world. It is the beginning of a new phase that involves caring and love. Needless to say, having a baby is cause for a celebration, so put on a shower that adequately reflects the greatness of this mother-to-be's future.
Get the word out Send out party invitations, to all of the female friends, far and wide. Decorate the invites with pink or blue corrugated paper and perhaps adorn them with lace or ribbon. Letter press is always a good option - it allows for a decorative yet refined design that can either be simple or intricate, but always has a feeling of effort and care.
Fun, fun, fun Party games are a staple for any lively shower. They help break down the barriers between guests by allowing everyone to loosen up and laugh. One fun game that TLC suggests is the clipboard game. It can be played by the guests while the mom-to-be opens her gifts. Everyone sits in a circle and passes along a clipboard with a piece of paper attached to it. As each guest receives the clipboard, they write one line that pertains to the future-mommy, and then folds the paper over so the next person can't see the previously-written phrase. The result will be a zany poem about the guest honor.
Decorations The amount of decorating you do for the shower is completely dependent on you. If it's your prerogative to go all out with balloons, streamers and other party supplies, that will be great. Try to match the atmosphere of the party with the bride's personality. An example of this would be if she likes sailing, make it nautical themed with little anchors and blue tones, or hand out sailor caps to all the guests.
Going further Feel free to turn the shower into a theme party. Baby shower favors should be personalized, so the guests will forever remember that day. Make labels on your computer or recruit the help of a friend who has graphic design experience. The tone of the labels should be congratulatory and celebratory.
